Experiment W29:
Oxyhydrogen gas
from water
* Fill a 5 -ml vial with tap water.
* Close it by a rubber stopper.
* Unpack a thick injection needle, puncture the stopper with the needle.
* press the stopper firmly into the vial,
* fixs a second needle into the stopper.
* Connect the needles with a 9-Volt battery:
At the left needle (-) more gas is formed than at the right one (Left
photo).
(If there is not enough gas your water is too soft:
Take soda water).
* Right photo: Fill soap water into the cavities of a
blister packing.
* Suck the gas from the vial into a syringe.
* Make soap bubbles in the soap water and light them.
The gas makes a bang: It is a mixture of hydrogen (H) and oxgen (O)
obtained from water by its chemical reaction at the two injection needles
supplied with electricity..
