EleE09 Analysis of water: Decomposition resulting in oxyhydrogen gas

1.  Totally fill a 5-mL vial with Cola.   2. Close it by a stopper containing a long injection needle.
3.  Pierce the stopper by a second needle: Take care that the needles do not touch each other.
4.  Firmly fix the stopper in the vial.      5.   Left: Connect the needles with a  9-Volt battery.
Observations Gas bubbles can be seen at both needles (More gas at the left needle).
* The Cola is pressed out of the vial by the rising gases.
* Close the vial by a rubber stopper, leave it for the next experiment.
Explanation: By a chemical reaction water was decomposed leaving the elements hydrogen and oxygen.
More hydrogen is formed at the negativen electrode and less oxygen at the positiven electrode.
                2 H2O(l) ---analysis---> 2 H2(g) + O2(g)        The two gases mix to form oxyhydrogen gas.
