Hard water is washing water which -due to a high content of Ca²⁺ particles- does not make a slippery feeling during washing hands with soap. A precipitation of calcium soap is formed instead of foam.
Soft water is washing water which -due to a low content of Ca²⁺ particles- makes a slippery feeling during washing hands with soap.
