The blue, the two black and the white beads in front of the thumb and the forefinger are models of one amino acid, the beads more to the right are models of a second amino acid.
Both amino acids are connected together (this is called a dipeptide molecule).
In a protein molecule not only two but more than 100 amino acid molecules are bound together.

Amino acids  are consisting of an amino group (-NH₂, in photo left), an acid group (-COOH, in photo right) and at least one further C-group (-CH₂-, in photo in front of the thumb nail).

Bonding between amino acids  to form proteins starts by two amino acids fusing between an amino group and an acid group resulting in a dipetide (photo).

 
Aminosäure-Verknüpfung  aus zwei Aminosäuren (PHOTO) geschieht so, daß sich zwischen der Säuregruppe des einen Bausteins (Photo links) und der Aminogruppe des zweiten Bausteins (Photo rechts) eine neue Bindung (Peptidbindung) bildet. (Eine OH-Gruppe und ein H-Atom spaltet sich dazu als Wasser-Molekül ab).
Indem sich eine solche Verknüpfung mindestens hundert mal wiederholt, bildet sich ein Eiweiß-Molekül.
