The temperatures during melting
and solidification can easily be measured:
* Left: Remove the
wick from the molten candle wax a tea warmer.
* Middle: Stirr in
the wax with a themometer until the solid wax appears at the surface.
* Right Observation:
The thermometer reads 48 °C as long as liquid and solid wax are present
This temeparture
was 55°C, when bea wax or ordinary candle wax were used.
Explanation:
48°C
is the melting point of the candle
wax used.
The
heat supplied during melting is consumed for transfering wax into a liquid.
This
heat is released during solidification resulting in a constant temperature.
