Evaporation of water from different springs
Wherever
water dries up white residues are left: In tea pots, at taps, around thermal
springs (Photo 1).
What
to do
Leave samples from a thermal spring,
mineral water and distillilled water for drying up.
Material
Black plastic surface, Leukosilk,
permanent marker, 3 labeled dropper bottles with samples from a thermal spring
(1), mineral water (2) and distilled water.
Experiment
1. Fix pieces of Leukosilk onto the
plastic surface.
2. Write the numbers 1 - 3 on them.
3. Collect 5 drops of each water
sample below the numbers 1 - 3 (Photo 2).
4. Wait until the water has completely
disappeared.
Observation
Spring water and mineral water leave
white dots of different size,
Distilled Wasser completely disappears (Photo 3).
Explanation
Only distilled water is pure. The
two other samples contain dissolved minerals.
Fountain 1 (Karlovy Vary) is very
rich in minerals.
